Hallo everybody. I am writing to ask some information about a set of glasses by Oiva Toikka called Flora. First question: Is it still in production? If yes by whom? I have written to Iittala and they replied they do not produce it.
Second question: In some auctions (like this on e-bay: http://cgi.ebay.de/2-Nuutajarvi-Iittala-Toikk... ) the material of the glasses is referred to as Alexandrite, a kind of mineral that changes color according to the light. Are ALL glasses of this serie made of Alexandrite or is this a special and rare version?
Can anybody also indicate me some interesting links of commercial sites where to buy vintage scandinavian art glass items?
Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Federico

Hi Federico,

Like Iittala has answered Flora is not in production any more.

I think the right word is neodymium glass when talking about the glass which changes colours depending on the light. Alexandrite and such are names which the manufacturers have given to their own neodymium glass.

The colors of Flora are at least: clear, blue, darkgrey, violet/lilac, amethyst, green but not all the dishes were made in all colors. I would say that the neodymium color is quite rare.

Maybe you already know this, Huuto.net, a Finnish auction site but only in Finnish. There are some Floras:

If it does not work try this and search for Flora (in Hakusanat tai kohdenumero). Haku is search in Finnnish. Yes, difficult but you may succeed!
